Who is meant to set the bath tub base?

Our plumber isn't prepared to set the base for the bath tub and he is asking us to get this arranged. The plumber has done the pipe work but wants the room waterproofed, then to get the tiler to start on the cement bed but not to apply the tiles yet, so he can set the bath.


Is this normal?

This sounds like a shower base not a bath tub. But anyway! Your tile man should be able to set it up for your plumber! Normally tubs are set on a styrofoam type base. ---AH! You said cement bed, this would be shower base!---But I think what you mean is plumber has done rough in for your bathroom, but tubs not in! This is normal! Your walls need cement board before tub is installed. Then tub is installed up agianst cement board by mister plumber. Now tiles can be installed up to tub edges for a nice seal that can be siliconed. This is the proper method for modern fibreglas jet stye tub, but not for older metal style. Older metal stye tubs went in before any drywall or interior finishing.----So--, any walls the tub will be butted against (touching) need to be boarded with cement board or densheild To a heigth 1 ft. above tub. NOW IT IS WATERPROOFED. Not exactly, but this is what your plumber is asking for.
